Learn Python by building real things.

Pong, a star shooter and a platformer. A weather app, a calculator and bots that automate your life. Real Python 3.13 with pandas, running right on your device, with Nova as your guide.

# Step 3 of 6: get the ball moving def update(dt): global ball_x, ball_y, vx, vy ball_x += vx * dt ball_y += vy * dt if ball_y < 0 or ball_y > HEIGHT: vy = -vy sound.play("bounce")

Not toy programs

Every lesson is something you'd actually use, and every project comes to life on screen as you build it, one piece at a time.

Games you build

Pong, Snake, Minesweeper, Breakout, Flappy, a star shooter with power-ups and a scrolling platformer. Play them full screen when they're done.

Apps with screens

A phone-style calculator, a live weather app and a habit tracker with streaks and a heatmap.

Automate your life

Rename and sort files, read spreadsheets and PDFs, clean data with pandas, pull from web APIs.

Block World

Script a blocky 3D world in Python: pyramids, fractal trees, villages and terrain. The skills carry straight into game-engine scripting.

AI, explained by building

Prompts, structured output, embeddings and a study bot that answers from your own notes.

Interview-ready

Sorting, recursion, two pointers, BFS and dynamic programming, plus a Dojo with 66 puzzles (including spotting the bugs AI assistants make) and a daily challenge.

A real debugger

Step through any program one line at a time and watch every variable change. The fastest way to understand code, and to fix it.

Databases & web APIs

SQL with SQLite, safe queries, and a REST API you build from scratch with routes, JSON and status codes.

Code like the job

Solo projects from a blank file, bug reports on code you didn't write, refactoring with tests, and security basics.

From your first line to serious coder

25 units and 43 projects, including solo projects with no scaffolding and maintenance jobs on existing code. Already know some Python? Take the placement test, or pass any unit's challenge to skip ahead.

1
FoundationsFREE
Values, decisions, loops, text and functions. Primes, palindromes, a guessing game, a cipher.
2
Data & Problem SolvingFREE
Lists, dictionaries, grids, sorting and recursion. Word search, tic-tac-toe, a sorting race, maze solving.
3
Real Programs
Files, debugging, classes, closures, generators and decorators. A bank system, your own test framework, Star Shooter.
4
Python Meets Real Life
The internet, pandas, databases and SQL, automation, apps and AI. A web API, a weather app, a calculator.
5
Serious Coder
Interview patterns, professional tools (Git, tests, the terminal, security), game scripting in Lua, and a capstone app.

New challenges every week

New puzzles and projects arrive in the app on their own, no update needed. Bookmark this page or open the web version to try them first.
